Data Sources Overview

A Data Source contains information for retrieving a subset of data from the TMS database. This includes the data fields, aggregated data, source tables, relationships, and filters and sort criteria. A data source does not include formatting information related to the display of the data, or how it will display when the data is printed out.

By creating a data source, you will be able to achieve any of the following results:

  • See a real-time analysis of your data, without the necessity of creating a whole new report.

  • Create the basis for a report definition, which will include formatting information for your data.

  • Create the basis for a TMS Dashboard widget, which will prove useful in your day-to-day operations.

In the topics that follow, we will discuss the standard form that is included with TMS for creating, editing, and querying for your data sources; the types and categories of data sources; and then how to build a new data source.
