Edit or Delete a Segment

There might be times when you want to modify the name of a segment, after it was created. You might also want to delete a segment that was created but isn't needed. Follow the steps below to perform one of these actions.

You cannot edit or delete the System Segment, only common and user segments.

Edit a Segment

To edit a segment, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to Setup > General > Segmentation Setup.

  2. Select the segment you want to edit in the hierarchy.

  3. Click the Edit Selected Segment button.

    The Edit Segment dialog box opens. The only editable fields are Description and Custom Fields.

  4. To edit the description of the segment, enter the new description/name of the segment in the Description field.

  5. To edit a custom field, follow these steps:

    1. Click the icon for the custom field you want to edit.

    2. In the custom value field, enter the new value for the custom field.

    3. Click OK.

  6. To add a custom field, follow these steps:

    1. Click the icon.

    2. From the Available Custom Fields list, click the name of the custom field you want to add.

    3. Click the Select button.

  7. To delete a custom field, follow these steps:

    1. Click the icon for the custom field.

    2. On the Warning dialog box, click the Yes button.

  8. Click the Save button to commit your change.

  9. To distribute the changes you made, click the Yes button on the Populate Changes? dialog box.

    Else click the No button.

  10. To propagate the changes made to the segment custom fields to other modules using the Propagation Wizard, follow the steps here.

Delete a Segment

Segments that contain data or history cannot be deleted.

To delete a segment, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to Setup > General > Segmentation Setup.

  2. Select the segment you want to delete in the hierarchy.

  3. Select the Delete Selected Segment button.

As long as the segment does not contain data or history, the segment is removed from the hierarchy diagram.

Use the Propagation Wizard

To propagate the changes made to the segment custom fields to other modules, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Propagation Wizard either by clicking the Propagate Changes button on the Edit Segment dialog box or by clicking the Yes button on the Populate Changes? dialog box.

  2. Click the Next button on the Propagation Wizard.

  3. Select the segments whose changes you want to propagate.

    This page in the Propagation Wizard ensures that the proper segments are included in the propagation process. You can clear any segments if needed. Select at least one segment to move forward.

  4. Click the Next button.

  5. Using the radio buttons select the modules to whom you want the changes propagated.

    This page in the Propagation Wizard displays the list of modules in which the selected custom fields can be updated. At least one module must be selected to move forward.

  6. Click the Next button.

  7. Review the changes to be made.

    The Propagation Wizard summarizes the changes that are being propagated.

  8. Click the Next button.

  9. Click the Finish button.

    The Propagation Wizard displays a completion message and a list of errors encountered in the propagation process, if any.

Use the Segment Mass Edit Tool

This tool allows you to mass add, edit, or delete segmentation custom fields.

To use the Segment Mass Edit tool, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Setup > General > Segmentation Setup.

  2. At the bottom of the Segmentation Setup page, click the Mass Edit button.

    The Segment Mass Edit tool displays.

  3. From the Select Segment drop-down, select the name of the segment you want to edit.

  4. Click the Add button.

    The custom fields for that segment will display in the Custom Fields list below.

  5. Click the Next button.

  6. To add a new custom field, follow these steps:

    1. In the Custom Fields section, click the add icon.

      The Custom Field Lookup dialog box opens.

    2. Select the custom field you want add.

    3. Click the Select button.

  7. To delete a custom field, click the delete icon next to the custom field.

  8. Click the Next button.

    The confirmation page appears. Prior to updating the system, the changes made on the Mass Edit tool must be confirmed.

  9. To confirm these changes, click the Next button.

    The final page will display a message confirming the updates made to the custom fields and a list of the errors encountered, if any.

  10. Click the Finish button.
