Create a New Segment
Segments exist in a hierarchical fashion, as explained in Set Up Segments.
Segments that contain data or history cannot be deleted, so we recommend you use caution when creating new segments and then putting the segment into use.
Create a New Common Segment
To create a new common segment that will act as the parent to multiple user segments and share data across the child segments, follow these steps.
-
Navigate to Setup > General > Segmentation Setup.
-
Select the segment you want to be the parent to the common segment. This might be the System segment or another common segment.
-
Select the Add Common Segment as a Child button.
-
In the Segment pop-up window, enter a Description, or name, for the segment. The Description should be something that users can easily identify, because this is the name they will look for when entering records, if they have access to more than one segment.
-
Click Save, or click Another to save this segment and add another common segment.
Note that if you select Another, the other segment will be added to the same parent as the first segment you created, although you can always move it later.
When you click Save, the new common segment is added to below the parent segment you selected in the graphical hierarchy.
Create a New User Segment
To create a new user segment that will be nested below a common segment parent or directly under the System segment, follow these steps.
In order to create new user segments, there must be available segment licenses on your license key.
-
Navigate to Setup > General > Segmentation Setup.
-
Select the segment you want to be the parent to the user segment. This might be the System segment or a common segment.
-
Select the Add User Segment as a Child button.
-
In the Segment pop-up window, enter a Description, or name, for the segment. The Description should be something that users can easily identify, because this is the name they will look for when entering records, if they have access to more than one segment.
-
Click Save, or click Another to save this segment and add another user segment.
Note that if you select Another, the other segment will be added to the same parent as the first segment you created, although you can always move it later.
When you click Save, the new user segment is added to below the parent segment you selected in the graphical hierarchy.
