Retrieve Information
After you enter records into TMS, you will want to locate those records again at a later date. There are two basic ways of retrieving information in TMS: use a module's Edit function to retrieve a record or create a Query to search for the record.
To Use the Edit Function
If you know the record's identifier (for example, Work Order Number or Vendor Number), you can go directly to the record by selecting the module's Edit function. A module's Edit function is accessed with:
To access a module's edit function from the menu bar, follow these steps:
-
Click [Module Name] > Edit, or Modules > [Module Name] > Edit
-
Enter the record number or ID
-
Click OK
To access a module's edit field using the Edit field in the toolbar, follow these steps:
-
In the module's New, Edit, or Query screen, enter the record number or ID into the Edit field
-
Click Load
The Edit function works identically across all modules.
To Create a Query
In TMS, the Query function searches for the item you are looking for. Using a query is a powerful method for locating information in TMS. You can access a module's query screen through either:
-
The menu bar: [Module Name] > Query, or Modules > [Module Name] > Query
-
The module's Query toolbar button
The Query function works identically across all modules. However, there are multiple types of queries you can perform. For further information on available query types see the Query Types help.
