Create a Segment for Property Management
Your first step in implementing the solution is to create a new segment that will be used solely for managing the properties under your department's supervision. There are two ways you can decide to set this up, but you will need to choose one method and then use that method going forward. It is possible to move a segment, but this is not recommended once the segment has records associated with it.
Method One
The first method you can use is creating a user segment that is part of an existing common segment. This common segment might have existing location codes that will be useful when you start entering your property records. The common segment might also have other user segments that function as child segments to the common segment.
Method Two
The second method is to create a user segment as a direct child segment to the System Segment. Keep in mind that in this method, any records that are not already in the System Segment, such as location codes and requesters that you might find in the common segment in method one, will not be available to the new user segment. With method two, you will need to re-create any records from a common segment that you will need in the new user segment. However, this method is useful in the event that you decide the new user segment should be isolated from other user segments in the TMS database.
Segment Naming
Once you decide on the method you will use, you can create your new segment on the Segmentation Setup screen (Setup > General > Segmentation Setup). Your new segment should be called "Property Management". A number for the segment will be selected automatically by TMS.
Next Step: Enter Codes
After you create the "Property Management" user segment, you can begin entering your solution-specific codes. Move on to the Create Property Management Codes topic.
