Identification Section Assets
The identification section of an asset is where you provide specific details that distinguish the asset from others. This section is important for tracking and managing assets accurately, as it ensures each item can be individually recognized and differentiated based on its manufacturing details.
Access the Identification section from within the Assets > Main tab.
The Identification section includes:
-
Manufacturer code: Unique identifier assigned to an asset.
-
Manufacturer description: Brief summary to provide more details.
-
Model number: Identifies a specific model of an asset by the manufacturer.
-
Serial number: Unique code assigned by the manufacturer. Typically used for warranty, history tracking, and distinguishing similar units.
When configuring the Identification section of an asset, the behavior of the fields change based on the segment-level settings in Classic TMS. These settings ensure that asset identification can be tailored to the level of validation and specificity required by the organization.
-
Enable manufacturer validation: Turns on the Models tab for those vendors who are designated as manufacturers (the Manufacturer option is selected on the vendor record).
-
Show vendor model numbers: Validates the manufacturer in the TMS database. When you add a manufacturer on an asset record, the entry must match a valid manufacturer vendor in the database.
Based on the settings, one of these three scenarios occur in the asset identification section:
-
Both settings enabled: Enter a manufacturer code, which auto-fills the manufacturer description as read-only. Select a model number from the defined list.
-
Only manufacturer validation enabled: Enter a manufacturer code, which auto-fills the manufacturer description as read-only. Enter a model number.
-
Both setting disabled: Bypass the manufacturer code entry, it does not display. Enter both the manufacturer description and the model number.
