Limit Exceeded
The EPA Limit Exceeded: Open Events table lists only those entries for systems whose conditions exceed the EPA limits. It should be noted that this screen only contains entries for unresolved limit exceeded systems.
It should be the Service Provider's goal to have this list empty as often as possible.Navigation

EPA Limit Exceeded Explained
EPA Limit Exceeded is calculated by using the following method:
Annualized Leak Calculation (%) = (The pounds of refrigerant added divided by the full charge of the unit) TIMES (365 days a year divided by the # of days since refrigerant last added) TIMES 100%
Why do some repair attempted events register as open EPA Limited Exceeded Events and others do not?
EPA Thresholds must be hit in order to have the event show up on the opening dashboard. If an event does not exceed EPA thresholds, it will not be included in this dashboard and will not be visible within the vx Suite system. This is not to say that these events do not need to be repaired in the same manner as Open EPA Limit Exceeded Events. The service provider should enter another event on the system when the repairs have been completed. At this time the service provider will enter the event in a Leak Repaired Status, which will close the event within vx Suite.
Why doesn’t the first event on a system trigger an EPA Limited Exceeded Event?
The EPA Limit Exceeded Calculation uses the number of days between events. Since there has been no previous event, there is a missing data element.
EPA-defined limits:
- HVAC 10%/Refrigeration 20%
- Mandatory record keeping for appliances containing >50 pounds of ozone-depleting refrigerants (Section 608 of the CAA Compliance)
- 20% max leak rate for refrigeration and industrial process
- 10% for comfort cooling
- 30 day period to bring system under EPA Trigger Rate
- Leak rate verification requirements
- Recovery equipment requirements
- EPA technician certifications
Will a service provider see all of their open events or currently leaking systems?
- No, the opening dashboard only includes events that exceeded their category (EPA set) thresholds. If the leak did not exceed the EPA threshold limits, the open event will not appear.
- It is part of the service provider's responsibility to note the events they enter as Repair Attempted and to enter a secondary event indicating the new Leak Repaired status in order to close out that event.
