Set Default Field Values

To set a custom labels and default field value in a specific module, follow these steps:

  1. In the Setup menu, select the module for which you want to set defaults and then select Defaults. For example, to set Work Order module defaults, go to Setup > Work Orders > Defaults.

    The Defaults Editor window opens.

  2. In the Group list at the top of the window, select All - All Groups or select a specific group.

If you want to set defaults for a specific user, click the Toggle Group/User button to the right of the drop-down menu and then select a user from the drop-down menu.

User-level defaults override any Group-level defaults.

  3. In the left pane, expand the field group in which the field you want to customize resides.

For example, if you selected the Work Orders module, you might expand the Required field group, because you want to add a default value for the Type field.

  4. Select the field you want to customize.

  5. For non-custom fields and non-date/time fields, you will see the following:

    • Custom Label - Allows you to set a customized label for the field.
    • Default Value - Allows you to set a default value for the field.
  6. Under Mode Specific Options, you have three options that allow you to set the default behavior of the field:

    • Set Field To Required- Sets the field to required (in New and Edit modes only). This option is set automatically for all TMS required fields and must be checked. Certain other fields do not have this option shown.
    • Hide Field From User - Hides the field and its value from the user (applied to all modes).
    • Set Field To Read Only - Disable the field, while still making the field and value visible to the user (in New and Edit modes only).

To hide a field or make it read-only, you must first set a default field value.

  7. Click OK to save your changes.

If you apply a mask to a Custom Field associated with the Work Orders and/or Assets modules, note that the mask will not display on Web Request pages where the field appears.
