Create a New Material
The Materials module manages stocked and non-stocked items that are used by a maintenance operation. Materials are stored in warehouses and are classified according to type, category, sub category, status, and many other fields. Materials transactions can be created for issuing, receiving, transferring, and counting material items. You can use the Materials module in conjunction with Work Orders, Assets, Purchasing, and Procedures, or as a stand-alone inventory management application.
To create a new material item, follow these steps:
-
From the Materials menu, select New.
-
In the Item Number field, enter a unique material item number.
-
In the Description field, enter a description of the item.
-
From the Material Type drop-down menu, select the appropriate type.
-
From the Category drop-down menu, select the appropriate category.
-
From the Sub Category drop-down menu, select the appropriate sub category.
-
From the Status drop-down menu, select the status.
-
From the Issue UOM drop-down menu, select the issue unit of measure.
When you select an issue unit of measure, the Issue Factor field is automatically completed.
-
From the Order UOM drop-down menu, select the order unit of measure.
-
In the Order Factor field, enter the order factor.
When the issue unit of measure is different from the order unit of measure, the order factor represents the number of issue units contained in an order unit and is used to calculate the cost of each item. For example, if pencils are ordered by the box and issued individually, the Issue UOM is Each, the Order OUM is Box, and the order factor is 10. If a box of costs $1.10 and there are 10 pencils per box, then, when issued the cost is $0.11.
-
In the Average Cost field, enter the average cost of the item.
This value should represent the average cost to purchase the material. After you save the material, you cannot edit this field unless you select the Allow Direct Editing of Average Cost check box using the Setup > Materials menu option.
-
Click Save.
