Materials Codes

Before entering material codes, first, review the Materials New page. Type, Category, Sub Category, Status, Issue UOM, and Order UOM all have options available in the drop-down menu that accompany them in the Materials module. TMS comes with many default choices. For example, one materials Type Code is F, or Fleet. You can define additional choices that appear in the drop-down menus.

To find an existing code quickly, use the Search box. Select a code type from the Code List drop-down menu and then and then enter a code, description, or part of either into the Search box at the top of the code grid. Wildcards ( * ) are supported.

To add a code, follow these steps:

  1. From the Setup menu, select Materials > Codes.

  2. From the Code List drop-down menu, select the code list that you want to add a code to.

  3. Click New.

    The Code Setup window opens.

  4. In the Code field, enter your new code.

  5. In the Description field, enter a description of the new code.

  6. Select the Show in New/Edit or Show in Query check boxes as needed.

If either option is not selected, the code will be stored in your TMS database, but will not appear in the code drop-down menu. To have a code appear in the drop-down menu, you must select one of these check boxes.

  7. Click Save to save the code or click Another to save and add an additional code.

Once a code is entered you can:

  • Click the Print button to preview the list of codes in the Preview window.
  • Click the Edit button to open the Code Setup window and modify the code.

  • Click the Delete button to remove a code from the list.

Note:

Once a code has been used in the application you cannot delete it. If you want to hide a code, click the Edit button and clear the Show in New/Edit check box. The code is still present in the TMS database, but you cannot create new materials using it.
