How to Apply a Dynamic Value to a Data Source

For this procedure, you should be in Data Source Edit (Data Sources > Edit, if you know the Data Source Name, or Data Sources > Query to search for the data source). To apply a dynamic value to a filter field on a data source, follow these steps.

This procedure is only applicable for Work Orders or Assets module data sources. Also, this functionality is only available on non-View data sources, and the data source cannot have a Saved Query, since filter fields cannot be added to this type of a data source.

  1. Select the Data Source Editor tab.

  2. Select a resource-related, assignment-related, or username-related field from the field lists on the left side of the screen.

  3. Click and drag the field to the filter by area below the WYSIWYG view area.

  4. Select the Setting icon (looks like gear) for the filter field.

A dynamic value can be applied to the field if the Dynamic Value option is shown below the Prompt option.

  5. Check the Dynamic Value option.

  6. In the Dynamic Field drop-down menu, select the dynamic value you want to apply as a filter to the data source (for example, My Resource Number).

  7. Click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the options pop-up window. When you close the options pop-up window, the WYSIWYG view updates to show you what records will be returned with the applied filter.

  8. Click Save in the Data Source Edit toolbar.

You can remove the dynamic value filter by re-opening the options pop-up window and clearing the Dynamic Valuecheck box, or, you can delete the filter field altogether. Either action will reset the WYSIWYG view.
