Tips for Custom Fields

A custom field's associations to one or more modules can be added and removed at any time, as long as the field has not been used on that module's customized forms or as part of other records in the database.

When you create a custom field you need to make sure the field name will be unique in its main module. Be aware that when the field is added to the database, "Code" is appended to the field name. Therefore, you cannot add a drop-down menu named "Problem," because when it is saved, it would become "ProblemCode," and this field already exists in vWorkOrders.

Custom fields shared between the Assets, Work Orders, and Schedules modules:

  • Custom fields shared by both the Assets and Work Orders module carry over to the work order when an asset is added.

  • Custom fields shared between the Schedules and Work Order modules also carry over to the work order when the schedules are generate.

  • Values from Asset module custom fields are also carried over to PM Schedules.

The rules about shared fields above also applies to fields in Web Request.
