Create Codes for a Child Field

If the field you created is the child of another field (the parent), and you are creating codes for the child field, there is an extra step involved in creating codes for it.

1. From the Setup menu, select General > Codes.

   The Code Setup page opens.

2. From the Segment drop-down menu, verify that the correct segment is selected.

3. From the Code List drop-down menu, select the custom field you created as the child from the list of fields.

   The existing codes tied to the selected child custom field are shown in the list.

4. Click the New button.

   The Code Setup dialog box appears. The field that you designated as this field's parent is display with a drop-down list below it.

5. From the parent drop-down list, select the parent field code that you want to associate this code with.

   Keep in mind that parent codes can have more than one child code.

6. In the Code field, enter the code you want to add.

7. In the Description field, enter a description for the new code.

8. Select the Show in New/Edit check box to have the code available on New/Edit pages.

9. Select the Show in Query check box to have the code show on Query pages.

10. Click Save to save this custom field or click Another to save this custom field and create another.
