About Calculated Custom Fields

Calculated custom fields are fields that you create with a specific formula in mind. For example, if you wanted to rank a work order, you can create a calculated custom field and add it to the work order form that you regularly use. Calculated custom fields might also be used for Capital Planning purposes.

Calculated custom fields are created with the following criteria:

  • A field name

  • A description of the field

  • A TMS module to which the calculated custom field is tied

  • A formula that contains numeric values and variables defined by you

Formula variables contain the information used to calculate the formula you have created for the calculated custom field. Formula variables are defined by three types:

  • Absolute - The value for the field you select will be used in the formula calculation you create.

  • Range - The value for the field you select is based on a range of values to determine the variable value for the formula's calculation.

  • Map - The value for the field you select is mapped to a corresponding variable value that you create, which is used in the formula's calculation.

The following rules are applied to variables used in calculated custom fields:

  • You can define one or more variables for a calculated custom field.

  • The fields to which variables are tied come from the TMS module to which the calculated custom field is tied.

  • Cross-module fields can also be used to define formula variables.
