The Field Designer Tabs

The Field Designer tabs on the Work Order Settings and Asset Settings tabs are where you can add and set preferences for the work order and asset fields for your Web Request page. Both tabs work in the same manner.

There are two areas on the Field Designer tabs: Main and Fields.

Main

The Main section of the Field Designer tab shows the fields that have been added to the Web Request page. Some fields are added automatically by TMS, because they are required for the creation of a work order or an asset. You can alter the properties for these fields (right-click the field and select More Properties), but you cannot remove these fields.

Fields

The Fields area is where you can select from the available fields in each field category. The screen shot below shows the Asset and Details categories expanded and the available fields in each. To add a field to the Main area, just drag the field over to the Main area and drop it where you would like the field to appear on the page. To remove a field you have added to the Main area, drag the field from the Main area and drop it in the Field area.

You cannot remove fields that are required to be on the Web Request page for creating and editing work orders or assets.

If there are Custom Fields in the TMS database with masks applied through the Work Orders or Asset module defaults, the masks will not be applied on Web Request pages.

Edit Field Properties

When you right-click a field in the Main area, you can launch the Field Properties window by clicking More Properties

Here, you can edit how the fields are displayed in the Create and Query. Click Apply to apply your changes.  Click Cancel to return to the Field Designer tab.

  • Custom Label - If the current field label does not fit your organization's needs, you can customize the label in this field.
  • Default Value - If you want to set a value for the field, you can do so here. By clicking the Lock icon (when available), you can lock in this value so that the user is forced to use only this value for the field.
  • Set Field To Required - This option requires the user to enter a value for this field. Because WO Number (in the screen shot above) is already a required field, this option is automatically enabled and cannot be changed.
  • Hide Field From User - This option allows you to hide this field from view on the Web Request page. If this field is not one that normally appears on the confirmation page (after the request is saved), you can check Display On Confirmation Page.
  • Set Field To Read Only - This option allows you to disable the field on the Web Request page, but still allows it to be visible to the user.
  • Preview - This shows how the field will look with the customized label, default value, and/or options you have set for the selected field.

The ability to edit individual field properties is one way that we made Web Request truly flexible.  You choose which fields appear on the Create and Query pages for work orders and assets.  You decide if you want the fields filled in by default and hidden, shown but disabled
