Validate and Import Data
To validate and import your data:
-
On the Create Mapping screen, select Next to go to the Validate Data screen.
The validation process will begin automatically.
-
If validation errors occurred, the errors are listed for you. Review the list and select Back if you want to make changes to the mapping file.
-
When you are ready to import your data, select Next.
Once the import process is started, it cannot be stopped or reversed.
-
After the import process has completed, you are shown a confirmation that the import process completed. If errors occurred, they are listed. Review the list.
-
If you want to view the import log, select the View Log button.
The log file is automatically saved in the same location as your data file.
-
To save the XML mapping file, select the Save Mapping and navigate to where you want to save the file.
-
Click Finish.

Validation is the same for update and import tasks.
-
Validation is the same for multiple segments or a single segment.
-
You can use Quick Convert if you have the permission, and can only change data in segments you are permitted to modify.
-
Quick Convert validates your data against the business rules in the BLL. The errors that are listed will need to be fixed for the import / update task to complete.
For example you will be prevented from
-
changing a status code on an asset unless the new status exists
-
changing a PM frequency to annual without also applying a frequency interval
-
changing asset numbers without still running the “does it exist in this segment or a parent segment” check
-
Error Logging on Custom Fields
Any custom field rows that were incorrectly formatted and did not get imported as a result are logged in an error log file. You will receive this file at the end of the import.
Make sure that the data in custom fields is properly formatted before the import to prevent it from getting skipped.
