Release a Blanket Order
You should release a blanket order when you want to create a purchase order for the goods or services listed as line items on the blanket order. Releasing a blanket order limits the line items on the associated purchase order to the items listed on the blanket order. To release a blanket order, follow these steps.
-
Begin by retrieving the necessary blanket order by going to Purchasing > Blanket Orders > Edit, or searching for the blanket order in Blanket Order Query (Purchasing > Blanket Orders > Query).
-
If the blanket order is not already in a status of Issued, change the Status drop-down menu to display Issued. and then click Save. The Release Blanket Order button will be enabled.
-
Click the Release Blanket Order button.
Clicking the Release Blanker Order button creates a purchase order for the vendor associated with your blanket order. It does the following:
-
Makes the PO Number the same as the released blanket order's BO Number.
-
Does not copy the line items.
-
Makes the Release Number one greater than the previous (for example, the release number is "1" on the first release).
-
Sets the new purchase order to a status/sub status of Pending/Ready.
-
Sets the PO's Description as "PO Released from [BO Number] - [Change Order Number]." For example, if the blanket order's number is "3," and the current Change Order Number is "2," the PO's description will be "PO Released from BO 3 - 2".
The Released Purchase Orders Grid
When you release a blanket order, TMS also adds the new purchase order to the Released Purchase Orders grid. You can choose for the grid to only show POs that are still open (Show Open) or all POs that have been released from this blanket order (Show All). Double-clicking any of the purchase orders listed on this tab will open the PO in Purchase Order Edit, in a child window. You can edit the PO directly in this screen and save your changes, rather than navigating away from the Blanket Order Edit screen.
