Active Directory Terminology

The following terminology might be useful to you as you set up and maintain Active Directory in TMS.

  • Active Directory - Microsoft’s integrated, distributed directory service
  • Active Directory Group - Objects that contain users, contacts, computers, and other groups.

  • ADAM - Active Directories Application Mode
  • ADSI - Active Directory Services Interface
  • AdsPath string - This is an address (similar to a URL) that defines a path to a Directory Service Provider (ex: WinNT://frssnet is an AdsPath string)
  • Database user - This is a traditional user in TMS that is not associated with a user in Active Directory.
  • Domain controller (DC) - A server that is running Active Directory.

  • Domain user - A user in TMS that is associated with a user in Active Directory.
  • LDAP - Lightweight Directory Access Protocol
