Before You Get Started

Before you get started with implementing the Active Directory integration in TMS, there are a few things you need to make a note of:

  • The server running TMS Control Panel must have network access to the server or servers running Active Directory.

  • For each database you add to TMS Control Panel, you have the option to select a domain to associate with the database.

  • Where a login is required in the TMS application, authentication occurs on Active Directory for Active Directory users, rather than in the TMS database, as it does for non-Active Directory users in TMS.

  • Nested groups are not supported for mapping Active Directory groups to TMS groups. You cannot have a top level group with groups within the top level group, or users within those secondary groups. You can only have top level groups and users within them.

If you do have nested groups, when you use the User Import Wizard to import user settings, you will receive an Index was out of range error message. In order to be able to proceed, you will need to delete the nested group.

  • Although the Domain Users group is available during setup, this group is not a Security Group and cannot be used. TMS will not accept the Domain Users group as an Active Directory selection for group mapping.

  • It is not necessary to create associations between AD users and TMS users in order for your users to log into the Web Request application.

  • If you are using TMS Mobile 6.5, TMS users with a TMS Mobile user profile must be associated with an Active Directory user.

  • Once you set up Password Options in TMS, the options for TMS users that are associated with an Active Directory user are handled directly by Active Directory and not TMS.
