Document Names

In PowerWeb, the value of Document ID for the Facility Document , Transmission Document type, and Project Document types conforms to one of the following document naming conventions. The naming convention can be selected by the document creator. All documents imported by drag-and-drop are automatically renamed according to one of the naming conventions. This process does not use the filename, which is stored in Imported From. You can view it in Stored Properties.

Automatic Naming

Names are automatically calculated based on other document properties and this pattern: <ClassificationCodeAbbreviation>-<DisciplineCode>-<4-digitSequentialNumber>.<FileExtension>. The sequential number is unique based on the values of Classification Code and Discipline Code and padded with leading zeros. This convention is consistent and provides easy document identification.

Example: ABB-10-0001.dwg

Manual Name Range

Names are manually entered by the document creator. The only restriction is that the name be unique (checked automatically) within the entire vault.

Example: MyDrawing.dwg

Override Document Range

If you have the Document Controller role (or higher permissions) you can override an automatically generated sequence number. This can be useful if you have imported documents that already have sequence numbers, causing Meridian to be out of sync with the proper sequence number. Other use cases include when you need to reserve a specific range of sequence numbers, or if you have deleted documents but still want to use the sequence numbers for the documents that were deleted.

To override a sequence number:

  1. Select Override from the Document Range field.

  2. Click Get Sequence Number.

  3. Enter your preferred sequence number in the field to the right of the Get Sequence Number button.

  4. Finish creating your document.
