Smart Pane Sub-Tab

The Smart Pane sub-tab on the Smart Elements tab allows you to enable and define the smart filtering features that will be available in the left pane of the Report Preview window.

The Smart Pane feature lets users dynamically filter records displayed in the report. It is a powerful feature that allows users to continue to refine filter criteria until the desired records are displayed. This criteria works as a supplement to criteria defined in the Report Criteria window. That is, it will further filter the report data displayed dynamically as changes are made in the Report Preview window.

If a report has been defined to show the Smart Pane, the Report Preview window is split between the Report Preview and the Smart Pane.

Enable/disable and define Smart Pane features available in a report:

  1. Click the Smart Pane sub-tab.

  2. Choose one of the following options:

    • Select Disabled from the Default State field if you do not want the Smart Pane displayed in the Report Preview window.

With this setting, there will also be no Show/Expand button, meaning that users will have no ability to use any Smart Pane filtering.

    • Select Hidden from the Default State field if you want the Smart Pane to be hidden.

Users will have the ability to access the feature by clicking the Show/Expand button.

    • Select Hidden - Fixed to Default Criteria from the Default State field if you want the Smart Pane to be hidden and to only permit filtering using the default criteria selected from the Default Criteria field.

    • Select Shown from the Default State field if you want the Smart Pane to be shown.

    • Select Shown - Fixed to Default Criteria from the Default State field if you want the Smart Pane to be shown and to only permit filtering using the default criteria selected from the Default Criteria field.

  3. Select the default field that should be displayed for filtering in the Smart Pane from the Default Criteria field.

If one of the Fix to Default Criteria options is chosen in the prompt above, this will be the only field available for dynamic filtering. Otherwise, it will be used to set the field that will be selected by default when the Report Preview window is displayed. The field lists all available filtering fields in alphabetical order.

  4. Click the Apply button.

Your changes are saved. The Report Preview window opens. If you accessed the Report Setup window from the Report List, you are returned to the Report List.
