Asset Updater Using Classifications

As data is modified on a classification record, you may want to push changes to existing assets that share the same classification. For example, you might add or delete a contract that applies to all assets of a classification, or modify the employee to which assignments should be automatically made. The Asset Updater tool allows you to specify exactly which fields or records should be updated and the rules that should be used to determine if affected records should be changed.

Update assets associated with a given asset classification:

  1. Choose between two options:

    • Select Tools > Asset > Asset Updater Using Classifications from the Main Menu.

    • Access the asset classification you want to use for updates, and click the Update Assets button.

The Asset Updater Using Classifications window opens.

  2. Select the classification record being used to update assets from the Classification field.

If you accessed this feature directly from the classification record, the correct record should already be identified.

  3. Choose between two options:

    • If all assets of the given classification should be updated, select All from the Locations field.

    • If only specific locations should be updated, select the correct asset list node from the Locations field.

  4. Use the check boxes in the first column to select the updates that should be pushed to the selected assets.

Meter information is populated from page 2 of the Classification Details tab and UDF Information is populated from the User-Defined page of the Classification Details tab.

  5. Use the check boxes in the second column to select which records associated with the classification should be updated.

With each of these record types, you can choose the type of update that should be performed. There are three types of updates available for each selected item:

    • Merge: This option adds records that do not exist on the affected asset and updates information on records that do exist. However, this option does not delete records associated with the asset that are not listed for the classification.

    • Synchronize: This option adds records that do not exist on the affected asset and updates information on records that do exist. This option deletes records associated with the asset that are not listed for the classification.

    • Add Missing [Record Type] (Only): This option adds records to the asset that are missing, records that exist in classification record but not asset record.

  6. Click Save.

When all assets have been updated, a message displays in the lower-left part of the window.

  7. Click Close.

    The window closes.
