Field Security Tab - Manage Security

As a System Administrator, you can set controls for the actions available to each user class on certain fields using the Field Security tab of the Manage Security section in the System Administrator Dashboard. This page is structured the same way as the Manage Data Fields page, and it lists both global and custom fields.

The Basics of User Security walkthrough describes our recommendations for configuring your user classes.

We recommend that you only make modifications to field security settings when there is a field that a user class should not access. Default field security serves most user classes.

To apply field security settings to a user class:

  1. Click Admin in the toolbar in the upper-right corner of the window.

The System Administrator Dashboard page opens.

  2. Click Manage Security link in the Member Administration column.

    The Page Access page opens.

  3. Select the Field Security tab.

    The Field Security page opens.

  4. Select the user class you want to which you want to apply security settings from the field at the top of the page.

Default Security is selected by default. These are the basic security settings applied to users with the lowest level of access.

  5. To show only the settings that are not the same as those of their parent setting, select the Show only non-default check box.

The Expand A small, white, square button with a plus symbol in its center. and Collapse A small white square button with a minus symbol in its center. buttons disappear for all folders except those which contain non-default security settings.

  6. Use the Expand A small, white, square button with a plus symbol in its center. and Collapse A small white square button with a minus symbol in its center. buttons to navigate to the setting you want to change.

The page is organized in the same way as the Manage Data Fields page.

  7. Select the security settings you want for the user class:

    • No Access: No access to this action.

    • View: View-access only for this action.

    • Edit: Edit action available.

    • Default: Inherit the value of the parent security setting.

The security setting value from the Default Security user class is inherited if the field has no parent. For example, the field is at the root level of the tree.

  8. Click Apply Changes at the bottom of the page.

The page refreshes. Your changes are saved.
