Configure Currencies
A currency in EMS is an abbreviation or symbol that identifies the currency used to charge rooms and resources. For example, the currency for U.S. dollars could be represented as USD or $.
Currencies are informational only. They do not affect reservation pricing, billing calculations, or invoicing. As a result, configuring currencies is optional.
After you configure currencies, you can assign a default currency to a room or service category. If a reservation includes billable items that use multiple currencies, EMS displays charges separately by currency in sales reports, confirmations, EMS Web App, and other areas of the application.
Configure a currency
- Select Configuration > Billing > Currencies.
- The Currencies window opens.
- Optional: To display all currencies regardless of status, select Inactive in Show.
- Select New.
- Enter the currency information.
- To create an active currency, leave Inactive cleared.
- To create an inactive currency, select Inactive.
- Select OK.
Currency fields

| Description | Description of the currency. Maximum length is 50 characters, including spaces. |
| Symbol | Required. Abbreviation or symbol used to represent the currency, such as USD or $. |
| Trailing Symbol | Controls the position of the currency symbol. Leave cleared to display the symbol before the amount (for example, $45.00). Select to display the symbol after the amount. |
| Sample | Displays a preview of how the currency value will appear as you configure the currency. |
| Inactive | Marks the currency as inactive. |
To use special characters for a currency symbol, copy and paste the character from a text file into the Symbol field.
