Customer Types

Customer Type values are used to indicate the type of customer that utility costs will be charged to (for example, tenant, student organization, or athletics). These values are used in reports to determine the amount of a utility a customer is using and can help with allocating building funds. The customer type values you define populate the Customer Type drop-down menu in the Create Allocation dialog box that is accessed from the View Meter Site page's Allocation pane.

To open the Customer Types page:

  1. Open the Administration Menu page.

  2. Under the UTILITY ADMINISTRATION heading, click Customer Types.

Adding a customer type allows you to define the values that are included in the Customer Type drop-down menu in the Create Allocation dialog box. To create a new customer type:

  1. Click the Add Customer Type link.

    The Add Customer Type dialog box opens.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the customer type.

    The name you enter must be unique.

  3. In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.

    The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.

  4. In the Description field, enter a description of the customer type.

  5. In the Active field, select Yes if this customer type is active.

    Active values types appear in drop-down menus; inactive values do not.

  6. Click ADD.

    The customer type value is added to the list. The name of the user who added the customer type value and the date and time when it was added are displayed.

Customer types can be modified. For example, if you want to change the value that users see, you can modify the name. To edit a customer type:

  1. Click the Edit link to the right of the customer type value you want to edit.

    The Edit Customer Type dialog box opens.

  2. Modify any of the following values:

    • Name – the value that users see
    • Tab Order – the position in which the customer type value will be displayed in drop-down menus
    • Description – information about the customer type
    • Active – Yes indicates that the customer type value is active
  3. Click UPDATE.

    The modified customer type parameters, including the name of the user who edited them and the date and time when they were edited, are displayed.

ClosedDelete a Customer Type

Customer Types that have not been used can be deleted from the system. If a customer type has been associated with a meter site allocation, it cannot be deleted.

If a customer type value has been used but is no longer needed, you can edit it and make it inactive to prevent it from being displayed to users.

To delete a customer type value:

  1. Click the Edit link to the right of the customer type value you want to delete.

    The Edit Customer Type dialog box opens.

  2. Click the Delete link in the top right corner of the dialog box.

    A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.
