Space Class
Space classes are additional classifications for spaces that allow custom fields to be associated with the space. Space classes can be associated with spaces only, not subSpaces. The class assigned to a space is independent of the category/subCategory and functional category/functional subCategory assigned to it. That is, spaces in different categories can be assigned the same class value.
User-defined fields (UDFs) can be associated with a space class. When you assign a space class to a space, the associated UDFs appear in a separate pane on that space's Edit/View Space page. For example, by creating an Office space class, you can associate user-defined fields for the number of cubicles, WiFi availability, or accessibility options with a space. For more information, see Application UDFs.
To open the Space Class page:
-
Open the Administration Menu page.
-
Under the SPACE ADMIN heading, click Space Classes.
The Admin – Space Class page opens. All defined space class values are displayed, listed in order of Tab Order first, then chronologically by Last Update date.
A space class creates a space classification that user-defined fields can be associated with. To define a space class:
-
Click the Add New link.
The Add Space Class dialog box opens.
-
In the Name field, enter a name for the space class.
-
In the Description field, enter a description of the space class.
This field can be used to provide more information about the space class. This value can be up to 1000 characters long. As you type, the character count updates indicating the number of additional characters that can be entered.
-
In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.
The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.
-
In the Active field, select Yes to make this space class active.
Inactive values remain in the system, but are not displayed to users.
-
Click ADD.
The space class is added to the system. The space class parameters are displayed, including the name of the user who added the space class and the date and time it was added.
Space classes can be modified. For example, if you want to change the value that users see, you can modify the space class name. To edit a space class:
-
Click the Edit link to the right of the space class you want to edit.
-
Modify any of the following values:
- Name – the value that users see
- Description – information about the space class
- Tab Order – the position in which the space class will be displayed in drop-down menus
- Active – Yes indicates that the space class is active (displayed to the user)
-
Click UPDATE.
The modified space class parameters, including the name of the user who edited them and the date and time when they were edited, are displayed.
Space classes that have not been used can be deleted from the system. You cannot delete a space class if it has been assigned to any spaces or if any user-defined fields have been associated with it.
If a space class has been used but is no longer needed, you can edit it and make it inactive to prevent it from being displayed to users.
To delete a space class:
-
Click the Edit link to the right of the space class you want to delete.
-
Click the Delete link in the upper right corner of the dialog box.
A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.
-
Click OK.
