Event Types and Sub Types
Event Types and Sub Types are classifications of an Event Class. For example, an Event Type of "Fire" may be associated to an Event Sub Type of "Fire Warden's Meeting".
To open the Event Types and SubTypes page:
-
Open the Administration Menu page.
-
Under the EVENT ADMIN heading, click Event Types and SubTypes.
To add an event type:
- In the Add Event Type field, enter a name for the event.
-
In the Event Class field, select an event classification for this event.
-
Click ADD.
Once an event type has been added, you can modify it or further define it. To edit an event type:
- In the Event Type field, select the event type to modify.
-
Modify the value in any of the following fields:
- Tab Order – A numerical value that specifies the position of the event type in a drop-down menu, where lower numbers are displayed toward the top. Event types with the same tab order value are sorted alphabetically.
- Rename – Allows you to modify the event type name. If you rename an event type, all historical information will reflect the new event type name.
- Event Class – Allows you to change the event class this event type is associated with.
- Status – Indicates whether the event type is currently active in the system. Active event types are included in drop-down menus; Inactive event types are not.
- Request Type – Indicates the type of work request that will be created when a user click the Create Request link on the Event Details page.
- Sub Type – Indicates the subType of work request that will be created when a user click the Create Request link on the Event Details page.
- Incident Type – Indicates whether this Event Type is also an Incident Type.
- Display Setting – Specifies whether this event type will be displayed as an option in the Incident/Event modules only, the EP module only, or in All Modules.
- CDW Enabled – Indicates whether the Company Doing Work field is displayed for events of this type. This field is used to indicate what company was working when the event occurred and is is typically used for a vendor-related event.
- Print Format – Determines what print format is associated with this event type.
- Click UPDATE.
If it is no longer needed, an event type can be deleted from the system. An event type cannot be deleted if it has any SubTypes associated with it. To delete an event type:
-
In the Event Type field, select the event type you want to delete.
The detail fields for the request type appear.
If the event type has event SubTypes associated with it, an error message will appear. These subTypes must be deleted before the event type can be deleted.
-
Click DELETE.
A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.
-
Click OK.
An event subType defines a more granular classification of event below the event type. For example, beneath the "Seminar" event type, you could define the "Lecture" and "Lab Session" subTypes. An event subType can only be added beneath an event type. To add a new event subType:
-
In the Event Type field, select the event type you want to add the subType to.
The detail fields for the event type appear.
-
On the Event Sub Types, in the Add Event Sub Type field, enter a name for the new subType.
This name should further define the type of event. The name you enter must be unique within the event type. If you enter a subType that already exists, an error message appears.
-
Click ADD.
The subType is added to the list of subTypes displayed in the yellow pane.
Once an event subType has been added, you can modify it or further define it. To edit an event subType:
-
In the Event Type field, select the event type that the subType was created beneath.
All the event subTypes created for that event type appear.
-
Modify the value in any of the following fields:
- Status – Indicates whether the subType is currently active in the system. Active subTypes are included in drop-down menus; Inactive subTypes are not.
- SubType – Allows you to rename the subType.
- Confidential? – Indicates whether the event subType is confidential. Confidential event subTypes are used for sensitive events and can only be viewed by users with special security rights.
- Notify on Update – Indicates whether email notifications should not be sent, should only be sent when the status of the event changes, or whenever the event is updated.
- Click UPDATE .
If it is no longer needed, an event subType can be deleted from the event type. To delete an event subType:
-
In the Event Type field, select the event type that the subType was created beneath.
The detail fields for the event type appear, as well as a list of the defined subTypes.
-
In the yellow pane, locate the subType you want to delete and click DELETE.
