Event Classes
Event classes are categories used to organize sets of similar events, for example, Marketing Events or Employee Events. When event types and subTypes are created, you must specify the event class they belong to.
Event classes are also used to assign User Defined Fields to an event, allowing custom fields to be defined for a certain class of events.
To open the Event Classes page:
-
Open the Administration Menu page.
-
Under the EVENT ADMIN heading, click Event Classes.
Adding an event class allows you to define an grouping for event types, subTypes, and UDFs. To add an event class:
-
In the Add Event Class field, enter a name to describe the type of events in the class.
Event class names must be unique. If you attempt to add an event class that already exists, an error message will appear. The system does not consider event class names that are differentiated only by character case to be unique. For example, if you create an event class named "My Class", creating an event class named "my class" is not allowed.
-
Click ADD.
A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.
-
Click OK.
Once you have created an event class, you can further define it or edit it. To edit an event class:
-
In the Event Class field, select the event class to edit.
-
To change the display order, enter a value in the Tab Order field.
The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.
-
To change the name of the event class, enter a value in the Rename field.
All historical information will reflect the new value.
Event class names must be unique. If you attempt to rename an event class to a name that already exists, an error message will appear. The system does not consider event class names that are differentiated only by character case to be unique. For example, if the event class "My Class" exists, renaming an event class "my class" is not allowed.
-
To change the status, select a value from the Status field.
Event classes with a status of Inactive are not displayed to users. However, inactivating an event class does not affect the existing events that utilize it.
-
In the Display Description field, select Yes to include a large description field on the Create Event page when events belonging to this class are created.
-
Click UPDATE.
Event classes that have not been used can be deleted from the system.
Event classes that have been used cannot be deleted, but they can be inactivated to prevent users from accessing them.
To delete an event class:

In the Event Class field, select the event class to delete.
-
Click Delete.
A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.
