Asset Groups

Asset groups are used to organize a set of assets classes into a single group. Users are granted security rights to asset groups, thereby defining the classes of assets that they can access.

For example, an HVAC asset group containing the Boilers, Chillers, and Heaters might be accessible only by engineers, or a Computer asset group containing the Laptops, Monitors, and Printers might be accessible only by members of the IT department. For more information, see Asset Classes and User Security.

To open the Asset Groups page:

  1. Open the Administration Menu page.

  2. Under the ASSET ADMIN heading, click Asset Groups.

ClosedAdd an Asset Group

Adding an asset group allows you to create a group that asset classes can be added to. Users can then be granted access to these asset classes on the User Security page. To add an asset group:

  1. In the Add Asset Group field, enter a name for the asset group.

Asset group names must be unique. If you attempt to add an asset group that already exists, an error message will appear. The system does not consider asset group names that are differentiated only by character case or spaces to be unique. For example, if you create an asset group named "My Group", creating an asset group named "myGroup" or " My Group " is not allowed.

  2. Click ADD.

A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.

    The asset group is created.

If you need to rename the asset group, you can do so by entering a value in the Rename field.

ClosedSelect the Asset Classes for an Asset Group

Once an asset group has been created you can select the asset classes to be included in the asset group. To asset classes to an asset group:

  1. In the Asset Group field, select the asset group.

  3. To add all asset classes to the group, click the Import All Classes link.

  4. To delete an asset class from the group, click the DELETE button to the right of the asset class name.

ClosedDelete an Asset Group

Asset groups that have not been used can be deleted from the system. To delete an asset group:

An asset group can be deleted if it contains asset classes. However, an asset class cannot be deleted if any users have been granted security rights to it.

  2. Click Delete.

A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.
